Recension:
The recording „Baroque Bohemia & beyond“ belongs to the series of CDs, which map Czech music of the 18th Century.
Although not belonging among bodies specialized in interpretation of ancient music Czech Chamber Philharmonic present this repertoire in an excellent style. This is due, among other, to the outstanding direction of Vojtìch Spurný who features in a double role of interpreter and conductor. He fully asserts his playing abilities in the central point of the recording’s dramaturgy – namely in the Richter harpsichord concerto – Spurný above all manifests his excellent technical abilities in the cadenza of the first movement and in the final movement. The orchestra is attentively following its conductor, it does not loose energy in pregnant passages for a single moment, legato phrases are being „sang out“ like an arch. The other symphonies are dealt with not a less art. The orchestra masters the swift tempi with an overall sovereignty, all instrumentalists play with concentration and like one body. Therefore the orchestra sounds like one compact unity and keeps the draw of each composition up to the last note. The impressive recording is worth while a repeated audition, as anybody will be surprised by a very agreeable musical experience..
